Comments:

Arsenal had lost three of their last four home games on the opening weekend of a Premier League season. This was the first time they had conceded four goals in a Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium since Chelsea's 4-1 win on 10 May 2009. This was the first time that three different English-born players had scored for the Gunners in a Premier League game since 4 October 1997 when Ray Parlour, David Platt and Ian Wright netted in a 5-0 win against Barnsley. Comments:

Liverpool had now scored 45 goals in the Premier League in 2016; more than any other club. Philippe Coutinho became the first player to score the Reds' first league goal in consecutive seasons since John Barnes in 1989 and 1990. [c/o Ged Rea, Liverpool FC statistician] The only other occasion when Liverpool had scored four or more goals in an away game on the opening weekend of a league season was also in London. They won 6-1 at Crystal Palace in the Premier League on 20 August 1994. [c/o Liverpool Match by Match]
