Comments:

League position: 5th Alexandre Lacazette failed his attempt to become the first player to score in their first four home league games for Arsenal since Jackie Henderson in 1958. Nacho Monreal scored his first Premier League goal at the Emirates Stadium and his first Premier League goal since 16 March 2013. The Gunners remained unbeaten in their last 32 Premier League games against newly promoted sides (won 27) since March 2012. Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said: "We got the clean sheet, we got the three points. Offensively we were in a bit of a doubt, the fluency was sometimes there, sometimes not. In the end for us it was a very testing win. For us it was a very testing week, we had two home games, one long away trip in the Europa League. We won the three games and that's very positive."

League position: 14th Brighton and Hove Albion remained without a win and had scored only one goal in their five away games in league and cup so far in this season. The Seagulls had now lost seven of their last 12 league and cup games (won three). Dating back to March 1983, they had now won only one of their last 33 away games in the top division. Brighton and Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton said: "When you come here you know it is going to be a difficult afternoon. They've got such quality, you have to set your team up and make decisions on how you want to start things. When you are promoted team, as we are, it makes it even more trickier but I certainly felt there were more positives than negatives. You have to remain concentrated for the whole 90 minutes here, we just needed to make more of the good areas that we'd got ourselves in to."
