Lionel Messi had now scored seven goals at the World Cup finals, all in the group stage. He became the fifth player to score at four different World Cup tournaments. . Argentina conceded more than one goal in their opening game at a World Cup finals for the first time since a 3-2 defeat by Poland in Stuttgart in 1974. . This was the first of Saudi Arabia’s last 20 games to produce more than two goals, and the first time they had scored more than one goal in a game since a 3-2 win against China PR in World Cup qualifier on 12 October 2021. . Former Cambridge United manager Hervé Renard, who led Zambia and Ivory Coast to African Cup of Nations titles in 2012 and 2015, took charge of Saudi Arabia in 2019. . It was later announced that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud would present each member of the squad with a Rolls Royce following this historic victory. . The Lusail Stadium, located nine miles from Doha’s city centre, was designed by British architects Foster + Partners. The golden façade, which stages the World Cup Final on 18 December, took its inspiration from Arab architecture.
