In February 1985, the Argentina FA banned the players involved in this game from selection for the national team for three years, due to sporting irregularities. Allegedly, the result was arranged to promote illegal gambling. There were various other attempts by illegal gambling syndicates to bribe players of several teams to fix results, and several arrests were made, though officially no match was found to have been fixed.
