The crowd reacted to perceived bias towards AC Milan by referee Christos Michas - the first Greek to officiate a European final - by throwing missiles during the victors' lap of honour. Leeds United attempted to gain a replay but UEFA denied the request. Although UEFA later banned Michas for life due to match fixing, his role in this match was never investigated.
