Gareth became Wales' youngest-ever full international at 16 years and 315 days in a friendly against Trinidad & Tobago at Graz in Austria on 27 May 2006.
Lewin Nyatanga of Derby County was the previous Wales record holder when he made his debut against Paraguay in March 2006 at the age of 17 years 195 days.
He signed his first professional contract with Southampton on his 17th birthday in July 2006. It ran to June 2008.
Gareth's contract at Tottenham Hotspur was extended to June 2012 in August 2008, to June 2014 in May 2010 and to June 2015 in March 2011.
