Although Marcos signed professional forms for Palmeiras in 1993, it was three years later before he made his debut in Brazil's senior division. 'Saint Marcos' has since served Palmeiras well and counts league titles, Brazilian Cup and Libertadores Cup amongst his honours. Marcos received his first international call-up in 1999 when he understudied Dida during the Copa America campaign. An often-underrated keeper, there is no doubting his natural ability and his reputation as an excellent penalty saver could prove decisive if Brazil's hopes depend on a shoot-out. Luiz Felipe Scolari was previously his coach at club level.
Marcos played in all of Brazil's games in the 2002 World Cup finals, including the Final against Germany in Yokohama.
