The midfield maestro's signing for Middlesbrough for £4.75million from Sao Paulo in 1995 was Britain's most sensational transfer coup since Argentina's Ossie Ardiles and Ricky Villa arrived at Tottenham 18 years earlier.
In a blaze of samba bands, nothing of its kind had been seen in English football.
The 'little fella' became the darling of the Riverside fans before moving on to Atletico Madrid for £12million in 1997.
He later returned to Boro on loan before going home to Vasco da Gama in 2000.
He missed the 1998 World Cup with a knee injury.
He offers a terrific option in midfield with tricky dribbling skills, accurate passing and a proven goalscoring record.
His popularity amongst the Brazilian fans is probably vindicated by the theory that team presents a more potent attacking threat whilst he is on the pitch.
He remains a very speedy and dangerous midfielder.
Having started the first four games, Juninho came on as a sub in the 2002 Final victory against Germany.
After protracted negotiations, Steve McLaren persuaded him to join Middlesbrough on a permanent basis for the second time in the summer of 2002 before moving onto Celtic in August 2004 on a two-year contract.
