Comments:

League position: 4th Liverpool, who were now ten points behind leaders Chelsea after 23 games, had now gone five games without a home win in all competitions for the first time since October 2012. All 14 of Georginio Wijnaldum's goals in the Premier League had now been scored in home games (11 for Newcastle United and three for Liverpool). Simon Mignolet saved Diego Costa’s 76th minute penalty. It was the sixth he had saved of the 14 penalties he had faced in the Premier League so far for the Reds. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said: "This team is outstanding in attitude so let's do the best we can and see where we end up at the end of the season. The results tonight were good for us, but we must continue to fight."

Comments:

League position: 1st Chelsea now had 56 points from their 23 games so far in this Premier League season; exactly twice as many points as at the same stage in the 2015-16 campaign when they were in 13th position. This was only the second game that Chelsea had failed to win in their last 17 Premier League outings (lost one). On his 100th appearance in the competition, David Luiz scored his first goal in the Premier League since 17 April 2013 in Chelsea's 3-0 win at Fulham. Michy Batshuayi replaced Diego Costa in the fourth minute of added time in the second-half. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte said: "It's pity Diego Costa missed the penalty because he played very well. We had different chances to score goals, but we must be happy with the result and the performance because it is not easy to play away at Liverpool."
