Kick-off: 4.30pm Manchester City won 4-3 on penalties. After extra-time. This was the 59th League Cup final and the second under the sponsorship of Carabao. This was the 163rd meeting in all competitions. The only previous final was the inaugural Full Members' Cup Final in 1986. Chelsea's 5-4 win remained as the highest-scoring final in Wembley history. This was Chelsea's eighth appearance in the League Cup final, and second in the last 11 seasons. This was Manchester City’s seventh appearance in the League Cup final, and fourth in the last six seasons. Manchester City had now won the League Cup for a sixth time. Only Liverpool (eight) had won it more often while Chelsea remained with Manchester United and Aston Villa on five. This game took place two weeks after City had beaten the Blues 6-0 in a Premier League game at the Etihad Stadium. This was the first League Cup Final to end goalless after extra time since Manchester United versus Tottenham Hotspur in 2009.
