Will Conte be next to go? We look at the managerial merry go round

There are some very strange going’s on at the Bridge at the moment. Things are inherently wrong and it’s almost as if Antonio Conte is doing all he can to be sacked.

Their 4-1 defeat to Watford on Monday night could well be the tip of the iceberg. Conte is now 15/8 favourite to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked and it’s well worth fans getting their phones out and taking a punt. Conte probably would himself if he could. Such has been his self-destruction, he’s catapulted himself ahead of Mauricio Pellegrino, Rafa Benitez and Sam Allardyce in the sacking stakes.

There have been a catalogue of errors from the Italian. The Champions may sit fourth, and a win against Watford would have taken them to third, just three points behind Manchester United in second.

Fact is, they didn’t and actually sit 14th in the form table with just one win in five. They’ve lost their last two, lost two forwards in the transfer window and Conte is doing all possible to damage the reputation of the football club.

The Diego Costa affair – what they could do with him right now – started the rot, the January transfer window was a farce. He’s picked fights with Jose Mourinho and even came out asking for public backing from the Chelsea board just a few days ago. Is that him asking to get the chop?

The backing of the board is notorious for an imminent sacking and you can’t help but question his commitment.

Following the Watford game he was at it again claiming, “the club have to take another decision” if they aren’t happy with him. The truth seems to be, he isn’t happy with them.

Earlier in the season Conte was linked with PSG, while Bayern Munich have also been sniffing around. Could he be trying to pave his way for a switch?

It seems likely, if not he’s not doing himself any justice in impressing for these jobs and could be out of the door at Stamford Bridge in a matter of weeks.

Luckily for Conte, if he has any interest in trying to turn it round, the club are still in the top four and it would have been near impossible to defend their title ahead of Manchester City anyway.

Fat chance of that though. He’s sat prodding and poking the board for weeks, conceded seven in two, scored one, and said nothing positive about the club in any of his recent press conferences. He’s baiting Roman Abramovich and with Chelsea’s record when it comes to managers, he may not even be in the dugout to face West Brom. And, to be honest, he’ll be happy with that. His best result all season.
