Midfielder Callum Styles was selected on Bury’s subs bench for the first time in their League One game against Southend United at the JD Stadium.
He substituted Anthony Dudley in the 75th minute to become the first player born in the 21st century to appear in England’s top four divisions.
Callum’s Shakers youth team colleague Rob Harker, who was also born in March 2000, was selected on Bury’s bench for the League One game against Bradford City on 5 March 2016 but did not come on.
Bury ended the campaign on a high note with a 3-2 win against Southend featuring two goals from 37 year-old veteran striker Ryan Lowe, who was making his final appearance for the club.
At 16 years and 41 days, Callum also becomes the second youngest-ever player to appear for the Shakers in a Football League game.
The club record is held by Glaswegian Jimmy Kerr who was 16 years and 16 days old when he made his debut against Norwich City on 18 September 1965 in League Division Two.
On the day that Callum was born (28 March 2000), Manchester United were seven points clear of Leeds United at the top of the Premier League.
