As well as making a great contribution to the team effort and he also beat several individual records this season.
An overview of Ronaldo’s fantastic season:
On 17 October, after scoring against Levante UD, Ronaldo became Real Madrid’s all-time record goal scorer with 324 goals, exceeding the legendary Raul.
On 8 December, he scored four goals in the Champions League against Malmo FF and beat the record for goals in the Champions League’s group stage, with eleven goals in six games.
On 3 March, after scoring four goals in the Liga BBVA against Celta Vigo, Cristiano Ronaldo became the 2nd best scorer in La Liga’s history with 252 goals. At the end of the season, he remains behind Messi, who has scored 348 goals in La Liga – but Messi scores 0.9 goals per match against an incredible 1.1 goals per match for Ronaldo.
Finally, on 28 May, Ronaldo clinched the 11th Champions League for Real Madrid in scoring the winning penalty in the final against the Atletico Madrid.
To conclude his season, he became the first player ever to score at least 15 goals in two different Champions League campaigns and the only one to score more than 50 goals for six seasons in a row.
What about his records with the Portugal national team?
Having beaten the Portuguese national team goals record on 5 March 2014 against Cameroon with a total of 49 goals scored, he can beat other records during Euro 2016.
Firstly, on 22 June he became the player who has played the most games in the European Championships final tournament. Currently, he has played twenty-one matches against sixteen for the ex-record men Lilian Thuram and Edwin Van Der Sar.
Moreover, he equals the record for number of different European Champion tournaments played in with four – the same as Edwin Van der Sar, Lilian Thuram, Alessandro Del Piero, Lothar Matthaus, Aron Winter and Peter Schmeichel.
In playing both the first Euro matches against Iceland and Austria, Ronaldo beat Figo’s record of 127 selections for the Portugal national team.
As he scored two goals against Hungary, he became the only player to have scored in four Euro final phases and exceeded the current record of scoring in three held jointly by his Portuguese compatriots Helder Postiga and Nuno Gomes as well as Thierry Henry, Jurgen Klinsmann and Vladimir Smicer.
Finally, Ronaldo is in a position to challenge for the title of the European Championship’s all-time record goalscorer. Since 1984, this record’s has been held by Michel Platini with 9 goals. Cristiano Ronaldo scored his ninth goal in the semi-final against Wales, equaling Platini’s proud record and reinforcing his claim to be the best player in the world.
