Blatherwick has grown in stature as a central defender under the tutelage of Chesterfield manager Nicky Law.
Previously an effective and commanding defender, he added more steel, reads the game far better than before and is more able to supervise his fellow defenders.
His trademark is a single buccaneering run every game towards the opponents' box that invariably causes panic and delights the Spireites fans.
Blatherwick was elected to the PFA's Division 3 Team of the Year in 2000-01.
He signed a new two-year contract at Chesterfield in May 2004 that was extended to June 2008 in March 2006.
Blatherwick retired in October 2006 due to a back injury.
