Rob Edwards began his career at Carlisle United for whom he signed professional forms in April 1990.

His performances in the side led Bristol City to sign him in March 1991 for £135,000.

He won Welsh caps at Under-21 and B level, before making his full debut when he came on as a sub against Turkey in August 1997.

Injury disrupted most of the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons and he became a free agent when he refused to sign a new contract at the end of the 1998-99 season.

He signed under the Bosman ruling as a free transfer after a sucessful trial at Preston North End on a three year deal in July 1999.

He settled in as a left back, making his debut as a substitute in the opening match, he was a virtual ever present and won a Second Division championship medal at the end of first season.

Rob was a consistently strong performer in defence for Preston in the First Division and his experience proved vital in enabling the side to adapt to Division One football.

He made his 400th senior appearance came at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day before a deadleg at Sheffield United put him out for four games.

He played in the Play-Offs but, unfortunately, missed a penalty in the shoot-out against Birmingham City in the Play-Off Final.

His performances earned him a recall to the Welsh national squad for the match against Poland after a four year absence from the international scene.

Rob joined Blackpool in July 2004 with a one-year contract.
