Has Robert Lewandowski been robbed of the 2020 Ballon d’Or?

Before the season restarted again after the impact from the global pandemic ensuring that all football was cancelled to ensure that social distancing measures were able to be put in place, the Ballon d’Or executives said that the trophy will “take a break” in 2020 which is the first time this has happened since 1956. Although this is obviously upsetting news for the organisers of the trophy, many feel as if this was the year that Ronaldo and Messi’s reign of consecutive wins would come to an end due to an unbelievable season by Polish striker Robert Lewandowski; and he should feel seriously hard done by because of this.

With a positive goal to game ratio this season of 51 goals in 43 games which made him the top goalscorer in the Bundesliga and also top goal scorer in the Champions League with 11 goals. Of course, Bayern Munich won both of the competitions, and typically in the past if you do the double, you are of a high chance of winning the coveted golden ball.

Even the Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has come out and supported Lewandowski’s cause, he went on to say: “I believe Robert Lewandowski is playing a fantastic season and he performed maybe the best season in his career,”

“Unfortunately, France Football cancelled the Ballon d’Or, which we are not very happy [about]. In the end, it’s not very fair – not just for Bayern but also for Robert Lewandowski.”

“Of course, I believe, in those circumstances, Robert would have a good chance to win it for the first time in his career.”

It must be a seriously frustrating time for the Polish striker reading all articles similar to this as to how he’s been out done of the most prestigious individual award in football, however, with the way that Bayern have played this season and the form he has been in, their trajectory only seems to be going one way and that’s up.

With it now being the off season, with all major European competitions coming to an end now, many punters have been trying to find alternative ways to ensure that they are still getting their in-house entertainment with hopefully a healthy profit at the end of it. Some casinos, you can find some here, have been experiencing a high volume of traffic surging onto their site from betting markets due to limited football events being on and have therefore seen such trends.
