Goalkeeper
Ederson Moraes (Manchester City)
Manchester City have signed Ederson Moraes from Benfica for a whopping £35 million. The 23-year-old is a very good goalkeeper who is great with his feet as well as at shot-saving. Claudio Bravo made quite a few mistakes between the posts last season, and one can understand why manager Pep Guardiola decided to move for the Brazilian from Portuguese club Benfica.
Defence
Daniel Alves (Paris Saint-Germain)
Daniel Alves looked close to joining Manchester City, but the Brazilian right-back ended up at Paris Saint-Germain instead. Although PSG are paying the 34-year-old right-back a lot of money, the fact that he came on a free transfer makes him a better buy than Kyle Walker, who joined City from Tottenham Hotspur for £54m. Alves may not be able to play 50 games in a season, but the former Barcelona and Juventus star would be a massive asset for PSG in the Champions League.
Victor Lindelof (Manchester United)
The signing of 23-year-old defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica could prove to be a masterstroke for Manchester United, who need to perform better next season in order to win the Premier League title and compete in the Champions League. The Sweden international is a complete centre-back whose talent and quality in defence is going to make Jose Mourinho’s side a force to be reckoned with.
Antonio Rudiger (Chelsea)
Antonio Rudiger is one of the best centre-backs in Europe, and at 24, he is only going to get better. Blessed with the versatility to operate as a full-back as well, the Germany international could prove to be a brilliant signing for Chelsea. Rudiger was one of AS Roma’s best players last season, and his presence in the team would enhance the Blues’ chances of winning the Champions League next season; they are fifth-favourites at 12/1 according to latest Champions League odds.
Benjamin Mendy (Manchester City)
Benjamin Mendy starred for AS Monaco last season, and his £52m move to Manchester City should not come as a surprise to anyone. The 23-year-old is a complete left-back who is as good defensively as he is going forward. The France international could develop into a world-class player under City manager Pep Guardiola.
Midfield
Dani Ceballos (Real Madrid)
Dani Ceballos is going to find it hard to establish himself in the Real Madrid first team next season, but the 20-year-old midfielder is supremely talented and one for the future. The former Real Betis youngster could play as an important impact substitute in next season’s Champions League campaign and could feature against the ‘lesser’ teams in La Liga.
James Rodriguez (Bayern Munich)
James Rodriguez did not make as big an impact as he could have made at Real Madrid, but the Colombia international’s undeniable quality and calibre is going to make Bayern Munich a better team. The 26-year-old can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, and his attacking prowess is going to add another dimension to Carlo Ancelotti’s team, especially in the Champions League.
Youri Tielemans (AS Monaco)
Youri Tielemans featured in over 100 league games for Anderlecht, and he could play a major role for AS Monaco both in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League next season. The 20-year-old midfielder still needs to add more facets to his game, but his sheer talent and raw quality is astounding.
Corentin Tolisso (Bayern Munich)
The fact that Bayern Munich decided to sign Corentin Tolisso from Lyon despite being quite strong in midfield underlines the 22-year-old’s calibre. Tolisso is a central midfielder by trade, but he can also operate as a right-back, meaning that he could be a huge player for Bayern in the coming years.
Attack
Alvaro Morata (Chelsea)
Alvaro Morata made just 14 starts in La Liga for Real Madrid last season, but the Spain international still scored 15 goals and provided four assists. It showed just how good a striker Morata is. The 24-year-old is a very clever striker who can link-up play, has guile, is clinical and is a sharp shooter.
Romelu Lukaku (Manchester United)
Given Romelu Lukaku’s performances for West Bromwich Albion and Everton over the past few years, it was only a matter of time before the Belgium international striker was snapped up by a big club. Manchester United have signed a potentially world-class 24-year-old who knows the Premier League inside out and is hungry to prove himself in the Champions League.
