Tottenham vs Man City preview

Tottenham Hotspur take on Manchester City in Sunday’s eagerly anticipated Premier League clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs have been inconsistent form throughout the top-flight campaign but they are only three points adrift of fourth-place Manchester United and third-place Newcastle United, who have a game in hand. Hence, the upcoming game is a must-win to avoid losing further ground in the Champions League race.

Despite being the betting favourites with GGBET and other sports bookmakers for the Premier League title, Manchester City have also not been at their best during the current league campaign. They have yet to string in a long-winning run and are presently five points behind league leaders Arsenal, who have a game in hand. City likewise have to win on Sunday to ensure that they stay within reach of the Gunners.

Current Form

Spurs recently ended a two-match losing streak in the league with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage. The north London club followed to beat Preston North End 3-0 in the FA Cup fourth round to keep their hopes alive of winning silverware this campaign.

City were stunned by Manchester United in the derby few weeks ago. The Red Devils came from behind to win 2-1. They have since responded with three straight wins in all competitions including a terrific 4-2 comeback triumph over Spurs in the league. They recently knocked out Arsenal from the FA Cup.

Head-to-head record

Spurs have fared well against City in the recent past and they have won three of the last five league meetings. They raced into a surprise 2-0 lead at the Etihad Stadium last month but capitulated after the interval, conceding four times. They face another huge test on their hands this weekend particularly with manager Antonio Conte set to miss the game due to a surgery.

Team News

Tottenham Hotspur could be without Lucas Moura, who has been nursing a calf injury but Richarlison should return for the game, having missed the weekend’s FA Cup outing at Deepdale. Pedro Porro could make his debut after his deadline day move from Sporting Lisbon.

Manchester City are expected to be without John Stones after his hamstring injury against Arsenal. Phil Foden is doubtful with an ankle issue but is likely to be deemed fit for the London trip.

Predicted Line-ups

Tottenham (3-4-2-1): Hugo Lloris; Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Ben Davies; Pedro Porro, Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ivan Perisic; Dejan Kulusevski, Heung-min Son; Harry Kane.

Man City (3-2-4-1): Ederson; Aymeric Laporte, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake; Rico Lewis, Rodrigo; Riyad Mahrez, Kevin De Bruyne, IIkay Gundogan, Jack Grealish; Erling Braut Haaland.

Prediction

Spurs are likely to play on the counter-attack just as they did at the Etihad Stadium. They should be able to find the back of the net but the question is whether they can outscore the reigning champions. We don’t see that happening with their defensive record which is the sixth worst in the top-flight. City should secure their first league double over Spurs in five seasons. Tottenham 1-3 Man City
