The Kenyan National Football Team?s first game was in 1926 in Nairobi, and was a 1-1 draw against Uganda. Kenya have never qualified for the FIFA World Cup but have entered the African Cup of Nations on five occasions.

Although Kenya have never gone past the first round/group stage at the AFCON Kenya have put in a number of impressive performances, most notably in 1972 when they only missed out on qualification for the semi final by one point.

Kenya scored their first victory in the African Cup of Nations in 2004 when they cruised past Burkina Faso 3-0 on their way to finishing third in their group.

Kenya?s main source of international success has been at the CECAFA Cup, a tournament for Eastern and Central African football teams. Kenya have won this on multiple occasions, beating Malawi in the final in 1975 on penalties for their first title. Kenya have been runners up in the CECAFA Cup a further seven times.

In both 2004 and 2006 Kenya were given an international ban by FIFA due to recurring problems in their Football Kenya Federation.
