The golden age of Haitian football came in the 70s. During this period they qualified for their only World Cup finals to date in 1974. However, they were eliminated from a tough group in the first round.

In 2007, Haiti won the Caribbean Cup. In the final they defeated Trinidad and Tobago 2 - 1.

After 2010 Haiti earthquake which devastated the country, like society as a whole, the national football scene had to begin to rebuild. It is estimated that thirty people involved in Haitian football died including players, coaches and referees.
