A real character Thabo could have been a professional cricketer as he was a wicket keeper of some note in his youth. He chose football and made his debut in 1992 for the Cape Town Spurs. He left after a dispute with the club after two seasons and joined the unfashionable Bush Bucks in the eastern cape and was instrumental in the team winning the Coca Cola Cup in 1997. His performances for the Bucks led to an international debut at the age of 29 in October 1998 against Angola. He established himself as a regular in the national team and after a financial dispute with his club he transfer listed himself and was snapped up by the Orlando Pirates in 2001. His fiery temperament earned him a six-month ban for an altercation with a referee earlier in the season but this did not stop him playing in the African Nations' Cup Finals. Strong and aggressive he adds steel to the midfield and offers the team an attacking option in the air.
