England international Terry McDermott was a brilliant midfielder who gave trophy-laden service to Liverpool before returning to his former team Newcastle United in 1983. In 1980 he became the first player to win the Football Writers' and PFA's Player of the year awards in the same season. He returned to Tyneside, firstly, as Kevin Keegan's assistant and, latterly on the coaching staff under Graeme Souness.
