A key member of the Middlesbrough team that reached the FA Youth Cup semi-final in 1999-2000 and a regular for England Under-18s, Stuart made his debut in senior football in 2000-01 Worthington Cup Second Round first leg tie against Macclesfield Town.
Shortly afterwards, he joined Halifax Town on loan where he showed a maturity beyond his years in half-a-dozen outings for the Shaymen.
He subsequently returned to the Riverside Stadium to continue his development in the Boro reserves.
Stuart is a versatile player who can be used either in defence or midfield.
He joined Birmingham City in July 2007 with a three-year contract that was extended to June 2011 in June 2010.
Stuart re-joined Middlesbrough in July 2012 with a two-year contract.
