Stuart Gray, who joined Celtic from Giffnock North AFC, was mostly restricted to reserve-team football at Reading in 2000-01 apart from a brief run in the first team in the new year when he filled in at left back for the injured Matt Robinson.

He was subsequently allowed to join Conference outfit Rushden and Diamonds in March and he assisted in the closing weeks of their championship-winning team, thus ensuring the possibility of a quick return to the Football League in the coming season.

He was a steady but unspectacular defender with a powerful shot.

A former Scotland Under-21 international and son of Leeds United legend Eddie Gray, Stuart agreed a new two-year deal with Rushden in May 2003.
