Having previously played for Peter Taylor at Southend United, Simon linked up once more with his old boss when he joined Leicester City in July 2000.
Initially second-choice in goal to Tim Flowers, he stepped up to make his debut in the surprise Worthington Cup defeat by Crystal Palace when he was beaten by two immaculate long-range strikes.
However he bounced back to make the most of the opportunities presented by Flowers' injuries and featured regularly for the Foxes.
Simon earned a reputation as a genuine shot stopper with a series of high class saves against an array of opponents.
Simon joined Queens Park Rangers in July 2005 with a two-year contract.
After a loan spell, he joined Gillingham in July 2007 with a one-year contract that was extended to June 2009 in May 2008 and to June 2010 in July 2009.
