Tagged 'the little devil', Edílson's fiery temperament has been known to land him in trouble in the past. Notably, he clashed with current Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari when they were rivals at club level. As he came to the fore in the latter stages of their qualification campaign, it appears they have now made their peace so the lethal finisher has the chance to reproduce that form that earned him the Player of the Tournament title in the 2000 FIFA World Club Championship. He left Corinthians in favour of Flamengo later that year and now plys his gifted trade with Cruzeiro. He has previous experience of Japan as he played for Kashiwa Reysol between 1995 and 1997. A very exciting player to watch, he is well known for his darting runs, finesse and exceptional ball control. At his zenith, Edilson is the type of player who personifies the true spirit of Brazilian football.
