Signed from Dr Martens League club Cambridge City, left-back Shane became the 34th player to make a first-team appearance for Southend United when he came on as a substitute at Darlington last March, thus establishing a new club record for the number of players used in a season. Small and nimble he will be aiming to win a regular place in Dave Webb's first team squad during the 2001-02 campaign. Following the change in management at Roots Hall, Shane was released in January 2002.
