A wonderfully agile keeper, Shaka's progress at Reading was closely monitored by Kevin Keegan before the Newcastle United boss captured his signature to provide competition for Pavel Srnicek.
Shaka, joined Reading from Howard University USA, returned to West Ham United in July 2005 with a one-year contract.
Shaka represented England at Under-21 level before making his full international debut for Trinidad & Tobago in March 1999 against Jamaica.
On 10 June 2006, Shaka made his World Cup finals debut at the age of 37 years 108 days when he was a very late call-up for the Soca Warriors first-ever finals game. Kelvin Jack injured a calf in the pre-match warm-up and Shaka gave a heroic performance in the historic goalless draw against Sweden in Dortmund. He was the oldest player in the 2006 tournament.
