Baltacha's father and namesake (born in Kiev on 17 February 1958) won 46 full international caps for the Soviet Union and played for Metallist Karkhov, Dynamo Kiev, Ipswich Town, St Johnstone and Inverness Caledonian Thistle. His sister Elena is a leading British tennis player. Baltacha junior has been capped by Scotland at Under-21 level.
