Ryan signed a new contract with Tranmere Rovers in September 2002 that tied him to Prenton Park until June 2006.
It was extended to June 2008 in December 2004.
He joined Wigan Athletic in July 2005 with a four-year contract.
Ryan joined Newcastle United in February 2009 with a contract to June 2013.
Ryan arrived on Tyneside having established his Premier League credentials at Wigan. Equally capable of performing at right-back or on the right-side of midfield.
