Martinez had a mixed time for Wigan Athletic in 2000-01 being in and out of the side throughout the campaign, however he made the line-up for the play-off encounters with Reading and went on to produce his best performances of the season.
He is a skilful right-footed midfield player with the ability to deliver a defence splitting pass.
The last surviving member of the Latics' famed 'Three Amigos', he was released in the close season.
Martinez, who also works as a summariser on Spanish football for Sky TV, joined Swansea City on non-contract terms in January 2003. He agreed a two-year deal with the Swans in June 2003.
Martinez joined Chester City in July 2006 with a two-year contract.
