Never the world’s most adventurous when overlapping, Robbie had always compensated for this with a solid defensive game and tidy if cautious distribution. When Torquay switched from a wing back system to a 4-4-2 formation last season this appeared to suit his style as a left back perfectly but he seemed to suffer a loss of form not helped by a series of niggling injuries and did not feature for the Gulls after the end of March. He was released at the end of the season, but was re-engaged following Roy McFarland's appointment. Robbie was soon on the move though as he accepted a short-term contract at Leyton Orient to cover for the injured Matt Lockwood.
