Richard Jobson

After successfully helping Manchester City gain promotion to the Premiership, Richard found few senior opportunities at Maine Road last term and his only appearances in the first team came in the early-season Worthington Cup games against Gillingham. In November he returned to Watford where had begun his professional career. Signed as cover for the injured Darren Ward he became the Hornets' oldest first-team player in almost 50 years, but looked a little rusty and after two games he returned north. He subsequently joined First Division strugglers Tranmere on loan at the end of December where he was brought in to shore up a leaky defence. He later signed for Rovers on a permanent basis but although he produced some consistent displays he was unable to prevent the club from being relegated at the end of the campaign. A vastly experienced centre half whose fitness belies his years he has a no-nonsense approach to his defensive work.

Richard announced his retirement from senior football on his 40th birthday.
