Richard Cresswell
| Born | 20 September 1977, Bridlington |
| Nationality | English |
| Weight | 74 kg |
| Height | 1.83 m |
| Position | Forward |
Richard began his career at York City.
He could never really establish himself as a regular and only did so after a loan spell at Mansfield Town at the end of the 1996-97 season.
After an outstanding 1998-99 season when he was capped for the England Under 21s, he was snapped up by Sheffield Wednesday for £950,000 in March 1999.
He made his debut against Coventry City and scored his first goal against Liverpool.
He was used mainly as a substitute in 1999-2000.
His lack of first team action saw him move to Leicester City afetr the first four games of the 2000-01 season for £750,000 in September.
Although he showed some lively form, he never quite grasped the opportunity.
He netted with a bullet header in the FA Cup Third Round tie against his old club York City but, having failed to establish himself in the first team at Filbert Street, he moved out on loan to Preston North End in March.
He found life easier in the First Division scoring on his debut just four minutes after coming on as a substitute against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
He also netted at Barnsley, and generally combined well with Jon Macken and David Healy.
Richard's contract at Preston was extended to June 2008 in August 2004.
He joined Leeds United in August 2005 with a four-year contract.
Richard's contract at Sheffield United was extended to June 2013 in June 2010.
