Brumwell ended a five-year spell at Darlington in the 2000 close season when he joined Third Division rivals Hull City. His versatility seemed to make him an excellent addition to the Tigers' small squad but he was unable to establish himself in the starting line-up and readily agreed a return to Darlington at the end of November. Brumwell covered for various positions in defence and midfield and was a near-ever present for the remainder of the campaign. A local boy he really relished playing for his home-town club and was extremely glad to be back. Brumwell always produces committed displays whenever he is called upon and has now completed almost two hundred games for the Quakers.
