Irish international Phil Babb was bought from Coventry City for £3.6 million and won the Coca Cola Cup with Liverpool in 1995 and became an FA Cup runner up the next year. After a long spell as a regular he was eventually loaned out to Tranmere Rovers before leaving to join Sporting Lisbon.
