Place of birthParis
NationalityFrench
Weight71 kg
Height1.78 m
PositionMidfielder

This classy midfield player cost Leeds United a then club record fee when he signed from Lens during the summer of 2000.

After being sent off in his first competitive game against Munich 1860 in the Champions League preliminary round, he went on to become one of the finds of the season, producing numerous 'Man of the Match' displays.

A tireless worker, he sometimes seems to run without stopping throughout the whole 90 minutes while he closes opponents down consistently and makes valuable tackles and interceptions.

Olivier is equally adept going forward, playing incisive passes and getting in long-range efforts, indeed his first United goal came from a long-range free kick in the victory over Arsenal in November.

Probably more than any other player, he benefited from the return of David Batty to the side and the pair soon established a formidable partnership in the centre of the park.

His contributions at club level were recognised by the French selectors and he made his full international debut in the Confederations Cup match against South Korea during the close season.
