Nemanja joined Manchester United in January 2006 with a contract to June 2010 that was extended to June 2012 in November 2007 and to June 2014 in August 2010.
January window signings rarely work out but in Nemanja's case it worked brilliantly.
A strong defender, quick in the tackle, outstanding in the air, he quickly became United's rock.
Alongside him, Rio Ferdinand responded with his best-ever form, giving United the foundation to win three consecutive Premier League titles and the Champions League.
