Cummins had a fine season at Port Vale in 2000-01 the high point of which was his appearance in the LDV Vans Trophy final victory over Brentford in April.
Like many of his colleagues, he seemed to struggle to find his form early on and it was only after Christmas that he began to perform at his best.
He is a hard-tackling wing back who is comfortable on the ball and particularly adept at sneaking up on the blind side when coming up to help the attack, a skill that enabled him to score twice in Second Division matches during the campaign.
Cummins signed a new two-year contract at Port Vale in May 2004.
He joined Rotherham United in July 2008 with a two-year contract.
