Black's Arsenal career extended to a 13 minute sub appearance in the Champions League at Panathinaikos.
Unable to get a game at Tranmere, Black joined Southend United on loan last December and the move was made permanent shortly afterwards. A quick and skilful winger Black scored his first goal for the Blues in the 2-1 defeat at Kidderminster last February and will be looking to maintain his form in the 2001-02 campaign. He is the elder brother of Arsenal's Tommy Black.
