Wicks initially joined Brighton on in September 2000 before moving permanently to the South Coast. A hard-working and committed central defender he also proved more than useful when joining the attack and scored a number of crucial goals for the Seagulls.
Having gained promotion to Division Two, Wicks lost his Albion place due to injury. A move back north to Hull City followed in January 2002 but the Tigers' failed promotion attempt, and subsequent managerial change, saw him placed on the transfer list only six months later. Matt's generally unhappy spell in East Yorkshire came to an end in February 2003 when his Tigers contract was cancelled.
Wicks is the son of former Chelsea and QPR defender Steve Wicks.
