Phillips joined Plymouth Argyle during the 2000 close season after impressing against the Pilgrims in a pre-season friendly.
Always willing to take on opposing defenders, his skill and trickery created many goalscoring opportunities for his team-mates and his excellent form was one of the highlights of a generally disappointing campaign for the Pilgrims.
A skilful winger who can play on either flank, he scored his first goal for Plymouth in home game against Chesterfield in March 2001.
Phillips joined Torquay United in July 2004 with a one-year contract that was extended to June 2007 in June 2005.
