Although he featured for Bradford City in an Inter Toto Cup tie against FK Atlantas and also in a Worthington Cup game against Darlington, Mark failed to make a real breakthrough at Valley Parade in the early part of 2000-01 and joined York City in a long-term loan deal in November.

He featured regularly for the Minstermen, producing some impressive displays in the centre of defence and contributed a goal in the 2-1 home defeat by Plymouth Argyle as he helped them to safety from relegation.

Mark's contract at Bradford City was extended to June 2009 in March 2005.
