Poole was second choice in goal to Ian Bennett for Birmingham City during the whole of 2000-01 and, although he regularly featured on the substitutes' bench, his only first-team action came when he stepped in for the 3-2 home defeat by Barnsley in January.

An excellent shot stopper who performs consistently well when called upon.

Poole's contract at Bolton Wanderers was extended to June 2005 in July 2004.

He then joined Derby County as their goalkeeping coach.

Poole's contract at Burton Albion was extended to June 2011 in May 2010 and to June 2012 in May 2011.
