Full name is: Juergen Peterson Sommer
A free agent at the beginning of 2001 after failing to sign a new deal with Columbus Crew, Juergen crossed the Atlantic and signed non-contract forms for Bolton Wanderers to help solve a goalkeeping crisis for manager Sam Allardyce. He played in the FA Cup tie against Blackburn, but after a confident start he sustained a leg injury and subsequently spent much of the game limping around his area, unable to kick out with his right foot. He then returned to the United States, signing for New England Revolution in April, but ruptured his left achilles tendon in June and was expected to be out of action for some time.
