Jon Parkin missed most of the 2000-01 season at Barnsley through injury but on his return to fitness in April, he impressed with his application and determination.
Called up as a last-minute replacement for Chris Morgan at Sheffield United, he produced an excellent display and went on to make three more senior appearances before the summer break.
He is a versatile player who can feature either as a central defender or a striker, although all his appearances in 2000-01 were at the back.
Big and strong, he misses little in the air but, despite his size, he still has good control on the floor.
After a loan spell at Hartlepool United, Jon completed a move to York City in March 2002 before moving on to Macclesfield Town in February 2004 with an initial contract to June 2005.
Jon joined Hull City in January 2006 with a contract to June 2007.
Following a loan spell, he joined Stoke City in June 2007 in a three-year deal.
Jon joined Preston North End in August 2008 with a three-year contract.
He joined Cardiff City in January 2011 with a contract to June 2013 that was cancelled in June 2012.
Jon's contract at Fleetwood Town was extended to June 2014 in May 2013.
He joined Newport County in July 2016 with a one-year contract.
