Before joining Barnsley, James Dudgeon had earlier YTS stints at Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.
He gained his first experience of senior football during a long-term loan spell at Lincoln City in 2000-01.
Apart from a period of suspension after receiving two red cards he was a first-team regular for the Imps playing as a right-sided central defender.
Strong in the air and effective as a man-marker, he also provided a number of goals, with his late winner against Plymouth Argyle in April giving Lincoln the three points they needed to ensure survival in the Football League.
