A back up striker in the national team he is a regular scorer at club level. He started his playing career at Samsunspor before signing for Besiktas in the summer 2001. He made his international debut in October 2001 and scored a debut goal in the match against Moldova. He topped the Turkish scoring charts this season and he will be a danger when he comes off of the bench.
He scored the Golden Goal winner against Senegal in Osaka as Turkey reached the World Cup semi-finals for the first time.
Although playing part in all seven games, he only started in the 3rd / 4th Play-Off against Korea Republic when he scored twice in a 3-2 win.
