Crawford had mistakenly been widely recorded as not playing in the League Division One game at Sheffield Wednesday on 17 March 1962. Steve Marsh, author of West Ham United: Complete Record explained [27.05.2015]: "Every other publication I've seen recorded Malcolm Musgrove playing at outside-left when it should be Crawford Crawford. "The confusion seems to have arisen from West Ham's next home programme where it gives Malcolm Musgrove in the match report line up, which is what everybody seems to have copied down going forward. "However, newspaper reports say West Ham made 'several changes' from the team that played at Burnley on 3 March 1962 (including Crawford for Musgrove, and goes on to say that West Ham made six changes from the side that had played at Burnley on 3 March). "I'm about to publish the next edition of West Ham United: Complete Record so this entry was crucial to my listings in the book. "My friends and I have checked four other newspaper line-ups ALL have Crawford playing instead of Musgrove.".
