After a spell at Arsenal's nursery club Margate and a loan stint at Hull City, Horace Cumner broke into the first team but after the war he was transferred to Notts County in part exchange for Ian McPherson.

Horace also guested in WWII war games for many clubs including Liverpool and Fulham.
